Wind Turbine Renewable Energy (RUK) Medicals

Keep your employees and business safe.

RUK Wind Turbine Medicals are required if working in the renewable energy sector, either for onshore or offshore windfarms. These specific medicals have replaced the MCA Seafarers Medical and the OGUK offshore medicals for those working within the RUK wind turbine industry, due to the unique challenges those working in the RUK industry face.

The medical provides an assessment of someone’s fitness to work in the sector, considering the risk assessments
within the industry, including working at height or in confined spaces.

The medical questionnaires and assessments are designed to rule out medical conditions that increase a risk of falling, ability to climb vertical ladders, working in confined spaces and in varied and extreme temperatures, which could compromise the health of the individual or those around them.

RenewableUK clearly states that the person’s capability is expected to match the tasks they will be undertaking as part of their job. This includes ensuring their medical fitness to work, whether it pertains to onshore or offshore RUK requirements.

  • Any condition that could impede the ability to climb, such as a cardiovascular condition
  • Any condition that could impede the tasks required or be exacerbated by strenuous exercise, such as either a respiratory, cardiovascular or a significant musculoskeletal health condition
  • Any condition that may result in falls or harness suspension when working at heights
